Designer - Henning Koppel

Henning Koppel was a native of Copenhagen and joined the Georg Jensen Company when he was 27. He had just returned to Denmark from Sweden where he, a Jew, had fled to escape the German occupation of Denmark.

He was trained as an artist, particularly in drawing and sculpture and studied at the Kunstakademiet (Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts) and the Academie Rancon in Paris. From the beginning, his silver work was abstract and sculptural and unlike anything that went before. His early designs were for jewellery and the forms were flowing and organic looking, closer to the work of other artists of his time like Aalto, Calder, Dali and Leger than anything ever produced at the Georg Jensen silversmithy.

By the late 40s, Koppel shifted to designing primarily hollowware and his pieces bear a distinctive sculptural quality harking back to his training as a sculptor.

Sizing Guide

Ring, pendant & necklace size reference

Being Danish, Georg Jensen jewellery uses European Ring sizes for their products (all our other jewellery is measured in UK sizes). The chart below can be used to help choose the size that fits you best.

We would always suggest getting your finger measured professionally where possible or purchasing a cheap set of ring sizers online before deciding.

Alternatively, cut a piece of paper roughly to the width of the ring band you are interested in,  wrap it around your finger making sure it can slide over your knuckle and mark and measure it where it overlaps. To be sure you can then sellotape or glue it to this size and test it over your finger. This will give you the Internal ring measurement in mm, which can be referenced on Google etc. For the European or UK equivalent.
